"Once Upon a Time..."

Traveling Exhibit from the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre Booked in the Temporary Gallery June - August 31, 2008

Grand Opening a Great Success!

@Discovery North Bay is proud to host a temporary exhibit on the Middle Ages, "Once Upon a Time...". To assist in the Grand Opening of the exhibit, @Discovery North Bay was proud to welcome Dr. Steve Muhlberger a Professor of History at Nipissing University, and an expert on the Middle Ages.

Dr. Muhlberger's particular area of expertise is jousting and duels, and he is the author of four books on the subject, including Deeds of Arms (2005), and Jousts and Tournaments (2003).

@Discovery North Bay would like to thank Dr. Muhlberger once again for his generous participation in the "Once Upon a Time..." Grand Opening.

About "Once Upon a Time..."

"Once Upon a Time..." castles and common folk were found throughout Europe. Peasants lived simple lives. Nobles enjoyed drink, games, and elaborate celebrations. People prayed, fought, or worked for their living. Land was the key to power and wealth. Today, you can take a step back to in time as you tour the @Discovery North Bay presentation of "Once Upon a Time...".

This unique exhibit showcases life during the years 1000 to 1500 AD. Thirty storyboards in total feature many aspects of medieval life, from monks and monasteries to the feudal system, architecture, games and pastimes, and the Crusades. Special focus has been placed on two of the enduring symbols of the Middle Ages: The Cathedral and the Armoured Knight.

The exhibit contains twelve display cases featuring models of the Lincoln Cathedral, the Notre Dame Cathedral, catapults, and more.

"Once Upon a Time..." was originally designed to tie in directly to the fourth grade curriculum, and reinforces the themes which are being taught in the classroom.

Telling Stories of Northern Life

Our goal for our current exhibits is to tell the stories of our community in a way you've never seen before ...

Whether that means seeing archival film footage or photographs of North Bay throughout its history, listening to stories told by members of the community of their experiences in the city and surrounding area, looking at collectibles from North Bayites who put together their own small exhibits in "The Collector's Corner", riding a velocipede, driving a train, testing your skills as a railway postal worker or learning about the future of the "Community Waterfront Park"... there is something to see or do in every nook and cranny of the building.

Re-energizing our beautiful historic railway station was conducive to telling stories from a transportation angle and it has produced some exciting and innovative opportunities for us to bringing our stories to life. We hope you drop by soon and see for yourself.
