Educational Program

Heritage Gardeners Enjoying the Symposium

The North Bay Heritage Gardeners is dedicated to developing a year-round community-based educational, horticultural and environmental program. We focus on fostering pride and growth through enhancing and beautifying the North Bay waterfront and other approved areas.

To that end we have an ongoing educational program that is open to all Heritage Gardeners. Educational sessions are designed for "in class room" or "hands-on" right in the garden bed. Class room type sessions will be presented at @Discovery North Bay (the former CP Station) on the second floor in the Temporary Gallery.Seating for these sessions is limited so Heritage Gardener members are asked to call the Heritage Gardener Coordinator to reserve their space (but do remember you can bring a friend if you reserve a space for them too). If demand for a session is high, a second session may be scheduled.

Don't forget to bring your own mug if you would like some tea or coffee, help save the environment by cutting down on the use of foam and paper cups. If you wish to participate in our prize draw at the end of the evening please bring a twonie.

Educational Offerings

Spring/Summer 2008

John Balfe Symposium 2008

Our 11th Annual Sympsosium was well attended with 148 gardeners, guests and friends of the Heritage Gardeners in attendence. We received postive feedback overall from our gardeners who enjoyed both John Balfe's and Rod Johnston's speeches.John Balfe spoke on "Gardening for your Soul" while Rod Johnston updated the Heritage Gardeners about what is happening with the Community Waterfront Park. The Davedi Club's bright and cheerful room, the timing of early April were also appreciated by Heritage Gardeners. Gardeners are anxious to get down to the waterfront to care for their beautiful flower beds!

Fall 2008

Mark Thursday September 11,2008 on your calendar if you wish to join us at the Rotary Rotunda to learn how to put your garden to bed for the winter and how to clean up and treat your tools at the end of the season. We might not be actually planting spring blooming bulbs but will cover how it done for each of the different types of bulbs available that must be planted in the fall for spring blooming. If the weather is bad we hope to be able to have the session on board "The Boat". Check here for updates on the avialability of "The Boat" for that session.
